Greetings fellow  fishermen and welcome to our website.   We certainly hope you will find this site useful in planning your next fishing adventure to some of the most pristine and productive fishing grounds in Florida.  We have fished this vast area West of Key West Florida for over 15 years, and spend over 250 days every year finding new spots and catching trophy fish.  We at Two Fish Charters pride ourselves in providing the ultimate fishing experience.   With the help of our highly experienced and knowledgeable guides, Capt. Yuri Vakselis and Capt. Shane Leonard you will bring home fish and many fond memories.  Read what others have to say about fishing with us here.

As many of you have already found out, some of the best fishing in the U.S. is found in the Atlantic and the Gulf waters west of Key West, FL.  Covering hundreds of square miles, these waters produce an abundance and variety of game fish year round.  Because of the great distances involved, at least an overnight fishing trip is required to truly experience a variety of fishing that is available in that area.  A typical trip can produce a mixture of snapper, grouper, wahoo, king fish, cobia, mahi-mahi, sailfish, tuna and an occasional marlin and swordfish.  It is not unusual to catch 20-30 different species on a single trip!  This winter and spring we had some great catches of large black grouper.

With all the different techniques that are used to catch these different fish,  an angler that is well prepared can take full advantage of this awsome fishery.  We feel fortunate to spend so many hours doing what we love, and hope to share our experience with others.

In this site we hope to answer many of the questions that people ask about fishing Key West waters,  Dry Tortugas,  and Marquesas Keys.   No matter what your fishing experience is you will find many helpful suggestions  on what tackle to use, how to rig baits, specific fishing techniques, best time  of the year to go, etc.   Check out our  photo gallery  to see the vast variety of fish that we catch on every trip.  Also, be sure to check out the fishing info  page often as we will be adding more information there in the near future.

Feel free to  contact us  if you have any questions about the trip, need specific information, or if you just like to share a fishing story.

For those that are new to this area and would like to try this type of a trip on your own boat, I suggest talking to someone that has made this type of a trip before.  A sea worthy boat and twin engines are a must.  It is a long run and  the NOAA marine weather forecasts on VHF are very weak to nonexistent past about 40 miles out.  The fort at Dry Tortugas and the Marquesas Keys offer protection from the weather or anchorage at night, if need be.  Be sure you are familiar with all the latest regulations concerning fish bag and size limits and operation inside the Dry Tortugas National Park boundaries.  Some good info on taking your own boat to the park can be found here.

If you are looking for a world class sport fishing, this is it.  The action is consistent year round.   Dry Tortugas is truly a fishing adventure of a lifetime and many groups return to enjoy the trip every year.  I would like to thank everyone for fishing with me in the past and look forward to see you on the water again.  Until then, tight lines and good fishing.

Capt.  Yuri Vakselis

CAPTAINS BACKGROUND

Captain Yuri has started out as a commercial snapper/grouper fisherman in Key Largo, Fl.  Few years later he made his way down to Key West where he continued running his commercial fishing operation in the Dry Tortugas area.  This type of fishing was done with rod and reel for the same species of fish that Yuri now guides for on his charters.

After many  years of full time commercial fishing, Yuri decided to do something different and challenging, sold his commercial boat and started running  charter fishing trips to the Dry Tortugas and Marquesas Keys full time.   Every year the captain spends more than 250 days on the water and has accumulated over 3000 different fishing locations!  Of course being a commercial fisherman in the beginning really helped Yuri to hone his fish finding skills and  techniques.
