we always anchor unless the wind is blowing so strong that the anchor will not grab.but it is really up to the customer ,fish down here are very structure oriented,so anchoring is usually the best way to go for most of the species down here, snapper grouper etc.

What rod and reel set-ups do you recommend bringing. I have a pretty good range of saltwater gear, but not sure what to bring.

for deep drops you will be mainly using 6 to 10oz weights except when you are fishing the reef for grouper and yellowtail then between 4 and 6ozs,bring about 15 of aech 6 8 and 10oz weights per person.the set ups i use are a 20lb class spinning outfit for freelining yellowtail and small kings.then a conventional reel of about a penn 4/0 size that holds about 250-350yds of 3olb mono, more importantly is the rod you will have on this, you need a long rod for leverage on the fish and it makes it alot esiar on the arms after your 20th mutton.7 1/2 ft 50 to 80lb rod with foulproof guides is my pick, star makes a great one.this is the rod you will be using most of the time down there.then you will need another rod abot the same specs but maybe alittle thicker on a 6/0 size reel with a slow gear ratio, for the giant grouper.then bring one of your trolling rods for the cruise out.oh yeah dont forget a sabiki rod for the goggle eye and tinker makeral and speedo makeral.remember the fresher the bait down there is one of the most important things,so if you can catch fresh bait ontop of the ones you braught yo'll see.my opinionfresh caught live bait then cut into chunks outfishes fresh 5 to 1,so bring bikis...............thanks MUTTONMAN696969669:)
